Meeting points

General information
I don’t have a car in summer

Each activity has a specific time-slot and meeting point, these are given upon booking.
– If you are staying in Les Arcs and would like to participate in rafting or hydro-speed swimming you have two options:
Everyday, you can use the free shuttle buses to get to Arc 1600 and from there use the Funicular train to go down to Bourg St Maurice whereupon we will pick you up in our private bus that will take you to the white-water base. At the end of the activity we will drop you back at the Funicular train station in Bourg St Maurice for the return journey.
On Tuesdays and certain Wednesday morning, take our free bus directly from the Villards village in Arc 1800 down to the white-water base. At the end of the activity we will drop you back to the Funicular train station in Bourg St Maurice where you can get the Funicular back up to Les Arcs and use the free shuttle buses to arrive at your chosen destination within the resort.
Don’t forget to tell us if you need any of these options when you book.
– Unfortunately it is not possible to participate in canyoning without a car as the meeting points are at least an hour’s drive from Les Arcs and they are quite out of the way so there are no public transport options.

I am staying at Odalys Edenarc Arc 1800 this summer

Arc Aventures by Evolution 2 has a partnership with Odalys Edenarc in Arc 1800 which benefits its customers during both the summer and winter seasons.
Depending on the type of rental you have with the residence, you may find one of our vouchers in your welcome pack. This will entitle you to 10% discount on selected activities when booked directly in our offices (just at the bottom of the Dahu cable cars). Don’t forget to bring your voucher with you when you come to book!

What are the weather conditions for summer activities?

All our activities take place in the great outdoors. Most of them can take place whatever the weather but there are certain exceptions. It is Arc Aventures by Evolution 2 directly, or our team (made up of trained guides and qualified pilots) who will decide if it is safe to go ahead with an activity or not.
See our terms and conditions for more details.

When booking a holiday

Whether you are coming in summer or winter, or you would like to make a booking or simply ask for some further information, don’t hesitate to call us as soon as possible. This is especially important if you are coming during the French school holidays in the winter season or anytime in August.
We will be happy to give you all the information you need and take your booking (if bookings for that activity are already open).
Our sales service team are available most of the year with short periods where the office is closed in the spring and in September.

Insurance for summer activities

All participants must have their own insurance in case of any accidents or injuries and may wish to get cancellation insurance as an extra option. We recommend the online insurance: Impact Multi Sports.
For paragliding courses you must have a FFVL licence and a medical certificate which is not more than 3 months old.
See more details in our T&Cs

I am staying at the Village Club du Soleil Arc 1800 this summer

I have vertigo or a fear of heights, which activities can I do?

You can do: rafting, hydro-speed swimming and paragliding (depending on the severity of the vertigo).
You should avoid: the tree-top adventure course and canyoning (due to waterfall jumps and abseiling).

Rafting
Where are rafting and hydro-speed swimming?

Whether you have booked the Discovery, Plus or Integrale rafting or hydro-speed swimming, you will start at our whitewater base on the banks of the Isère River in Bourg St Maurice. You’ll leave all your things in your bag which will go in our bus. The bus will come to pick you up at the end of the activity and bring you back to the whitewater base.

Can I do rafting with my family?

We have two types of rafting to be able to accommodate adults and children during the activity.
The Discovery rafting is shorter and doesn’t include any rapids so it is perfect for children from 8 years old (they need to have had their 8th birthday before or on the day of the activity) and from 12 years old everyone can do the Integrale rafting which includes the rapids and gorges.
If you have mixed ages in your family, we can usually find a solution where you do the first part of the activity together and those who aren’t 12 yet get out just before the rapids and return to the whitewater base with the guides while the others finish the activity.

What is rafting?

In rafting you go down the river on a large inflatable boat. There are 4 to 9 spaces for participants and a guide sits at the back to steer and instruct everyone. Participants sit on either side and paddle as the guide tells them to.

Can anyone do rafting?

Everyone needs their own insurance.
Everyone needs to be able to swim at least 25 metres and submerge themselves fully (swimming test during the activity)
The minimum ages are strictly adhered to and participants need to have passed the relevant birthday on or before the date of the activity:
Discovery Rafting: 8 years old with a responsible adult participating or 10 years old alone
Integrale Rafting: 12 years old with a responsible adult participating or 14 years old alone
– Ask when you book about signing the legal documents before the activity for all minors participating without a responsible adults.

What equipment do I need for rafting?

You should bring: a swimming costume, a towel and a bag that closes and is big enough for all your clothes, shoes and towel.
We will give you: Full neoprene wetsuits, neoprene boots, helmets, life preservers and paddles.

Hydrospeed swimming
Where are rafting and hydro-speed swimming?

Whether you have booked the Discovery, Plus or Integrale rafting or hydro-speed swimming, you will start at our whitewater base on the banks of the Isère River in Bourg St Maurice. You’ll leave all your things in your bag which will go in our bus. The bus will come to pick you up at the end of the activity and bring you back to the whitewater base.

What is hydro-speed swimming?

In this activity participants lie on their fronts on inflatable small inflatable rafts which are as long as their torso. Their arms sit inside the raft and they hang on whilst leaning on the raft and swimming with the help of fins. The aim is to follow the path swum by guide in front of them as they know where the obstacles such as rocks and whirlpools are and how to avoid them.

What should I wear for hydro-speed swimming?

You should bring: a swimming costume, a towel and a bag that closes and is big enough for all your clothes, shoes and towel.
We will give you: Full neoprene wetsuits, neoprene socks, fins, helmets, life preservers.

Can anyone do hydro-speed swimming?

Everyone needs their own insurance.
Everyone needs to be able to swim at least 25 metres and submerge themselves fully
The minimum ages are strictly adhered to and participants need to have passed the relevant birthday on or before the date of the activity:
Discovery Hydrospeed Swimming: 13 years old with a responsible adult participating or 14 years old alone
Plus / Integrale Hydrospeed Swimming: participants must have already completed the Discovery Hydrospeed swimming. From 16 years old. Only the river guides can decide if participants are capable of continuing the activity further than the Discovery (at Gothard just before the Aime rapids).

Canyoning
What is Canyoning?

During this activity you will follow the path of a river flowing through the center of a canyon. You will use a range of techniques: swimming, walking in the water, jumping from waterfalls, sliding on natural flumes in the rock and abseiling down rock-faces. Each canyon is different in technique and difficulty.

What should I wear for canyoning?

You should bring: a swimming costume, a towel and trainers or walking shoes that have good grip and ideally provide some ankle support (no beach shoes or flat trainers e.g. Converses)
We provide: full wetsuits, neoprene socks (to go inside your trainers), helmets and harnesses.
Please note: your clothes and belongings will stay in your car, avoid bringing valuables.

Can anyone do Canyoning?

Everyone needs their own insurance.
Everyone needs to be able to swim at least 25 metres and fully submerge themselves.
Not recommended for those with vertigo or fear of heights.
Eau-Rousse Level 1: children from 10 years old (sometimes younger depending on the size of the child) and 30kg minimum with a responsible adult participating for all children under 14 years old.
Montmin Level 1: children from 10 years old and 30kg minimum with a responsible adult participating for all children under 14 years old.
Pussy Level 2: children from 12 years old and 35kg minimum with a responsible adult participating for all children under 14 years old.

Tree-top Adventure park
What is the Mont-Blanc Treetop Adventure Course?

This activity is essentially an obstacle course which takes place in the trees themselves. It is a mix of different activities such as ladders, rope-ladders, stepping games, monkey bars, zip wires and net-bridges as well as much more. The activities become increasingly difficult as you go through the course and you can stop before the end if you wish. All the way through the course you are attached to a secure system of steel cables via a harness and a continuous belay system making it very safe.

What should I wear for the Mont-Blanc Treetop Adventure Course?

You should wear: Trainers, long shorts, trousers or leggings, a light jumper. Long hair tied back in a low ponytail. Avoid strappy-tops or crop-tops and short-shorts.
We provide: a harness.
You can buy (optional): gloves, on sale at the welcome chalet (4€/pair).

Can anyone do the Mont-Blanc Treetop Adventure Course?

Everyone needs their own insurance.
Children must be at least 1.30m tall and for each child between 1.30m and 1.45m, one adult must participate just behind them incase they have trouble reaching anything.
You cannot do this activity if you have vertigo or a fear of heights.
This activity is monitored from the ground by our team but there is no one in the trees with you during the course.

Paragliding
Paragliding: take-offs and landing points

Take off points depend on the time-slot and weight of the participant:
– Morning flights: passengers take off from the top of the Cachette chair-lift in Arc 1600. You will need to get to Arc 1600 of your own accord and passengers are picked up by the pilots at the bottom of the chair-lift (ticket for the passenger included in the price of the flight)
– 13h45 onwards: There are 3 possible take-off points between Arc 1800 and Vallandry and the pilots chose the best one for the current air conditions at the time of the flight. Pilots pick up the passengers from the Arc Aventures main office and take them to the take-off.
Landing zones:
– Morning flights: flights will land in the field between the train station and the funicular train station in Bourg St Maurice
– 12h15 onwards: Illettes landing field in Hauteville-Gondon
Passengers are driven back to the start point by bus or funicular and their tickets are included in the price of the flight.

When should I book my paragliding flight?

We highly recommend booking as early as possible when you arrive for your holiday.
You should try and book the first possible time-slot during your stay in case the weather conditions do not allow us to fly so as to give us the best possible chance to reschedule for another day. The time-slots we will be able to offer depend on the exact weight of the participants (within a margin of 1-2kg) as the flight conditions change throughout the day. As a general rule, children and small adults fly in the morning when we can start at 25kg minimum and everyone else flies in the afternoon when we can go up to 100kg maximum. The conditions and the weight restrictions mean that, for example, most parents and children cannot fly at the same time!
Performance flights are only available in the afternoon.

Can I take photos or film my paragliding flight?

You cannot take your phone out during the flight to film as it would be very dangerous if it fell on someone. There is a photo + video option available for 30€ (2022 price) to be paid in cash directly to the pilot who will film you and take photos with their GoPro on a selfie-stick. After the flight they will give you the SD card and an adapter.

What is a tandem paragliding flight?

Two people, the pilot and the passenger, fly under the same wing. The passenger is in front of the pilot, comfortably seated in a large harness-seat which securely attaches them to the pilot and the wing. The pilot controls the wing during the flight.

What should I wear for paragliding?

You should wear: A jacket or windbreaker, trousers or leggings, trainers or walking shoes (that give good grip) and sun glasses. Helmets are provided.

Can anyone do paragliding?

Everyone needs to have their own insurance
Discovery Tandem flight: children from 5 years old and 25kg and adults 100kg max.
Performance Tandem flight: teenagers from 12 years old and 45kg minimum adults 100kg max.
Paragliding is not recommended for those who suffer from travel sickness.
– Contact us directly for more information if you are over 100kg or 70 years of age.

General information
When booking a holiday

Whether you are coming in summer or winter, or you would like to make a booking or simply ask for some further information, don’t hesitate to call us as soon as possible. This is especially important if you are coming during the French school holidays in the winter season or anytime in August.
We will be happy to give you all the information you need and take your booking (if bookings for that activity are already open).
Our sales service team are available most of the year with short periods where the office is closed in the spring and in September.

Do I need to book my lessons in advance?

Yes! We strongly recommend booking in advance and especially if you are coming during the French school holidays (during the February French school holidays it is almost impossible to book when you arrive as almost everything is fully booked).
We will be ready to take bookings from the 10th October 2022. You can book over the phone or online and all bookings must be paid for in advance and are subject to availability.

Do the instructors speak English?

Our instructors speak French as their first language, but they also speak English and some speak Spanish and German so they can switch during lessons to suite the participants.

I don’t have a car this winter

Each activity has a specific time-slot and meeting point, these are given upon booking.
It is best to book lessons with us only if you are staying in Arc 1800 as our ski school and the majority of our meeting points are there.
For snowshoeing excursions the meeting point is usually at our office in Arc 1800 but for certain walks we can arrange meeting points elsewhere in Les Arcs. Ask our sales team for details.

Levels
Are the levels the same in all the ski schools?

Yes! The technical levels are the same in all the ski schools in France. They just have different names and medals. Our sales team will be happy to explain the equivalent of your level (acquired elsewhere) in our school.

What level of skiing should I book for my child?

You should book children into the level they want to pass which means one level above the one they passed most recently.
You should book three-year-olds who have never skied directly into the Panda group and children from 4 years old who have never skied should start in Yetison whatever their age.
If the level you want is full, call us +33 (0)4 79 07 60 02! DON’T just book one level above or below – we have strict groups based on skill level and your lessons will most likely just be cancelled and refunded.
See children ski levels and medals.

What level of skiing should I book for an adult?

You should book adults into the level they want to pass which means one level above the one they passed most recently.
Only adults who have NEVER skied before should go into the beginner group.
If the level you want is full, call us +33 (0)4 79 07 60 02! DON’T just book one level above or below – we have strict groups based on skill level and your lessons will most likely just be cancelled and refunded.
See adults ski levels.

What level of snowboarding should I book?

You should book participants into the level they want to pass which means one level above the one they passed most recently. Only participants who have NEVER done snowboarding before should go into the ‘Snow 1’ beginner group.
If the level you want is full, call us +33 (0)4 79 07 60 02! DON’T just book one level above or below – we have strict groups based on skill level and your lessons will most likely just be cancelled and refunded.
See snowboard levels and medals.

The level I need is full, what should I do?

Call us! If there is a solution we will find it but if there isn’t, DON’T just book one level above or below – we have strict groups based on skill level and your lessons will most likely just be cancelled and refunded. If people don’t respect our level system it leads to uneven skill-levels in groups which makes them much less rewarding for the participants.
Top-tip: Check if another times-slot is available for the level you need, for example, afternoon group lessons during the school holidays.
+33 (0)4 79 07 60 02

Children's skiing
Does my child need a snack?

We give the children a snack during all lessons that take place in the Jardin d’enfants (please warn us of any allergies). For all children out on the slopes, you are welcome to slip one in the pocket of their ski jackets for them to eat during the lesson but warn them against littering!

What should my child wear?

Helmets are compulsory
Make sure your children are equipped with everything they need for good and bad weather: warm water-resistant ski jacket and trousers, thermal underclothes, long socks, water-resistant mittens or gloves, sunglasses or goggles, snoods, suncream and tissues in their pocket.

Does my child need ski poles?

– Not for the following levels: Panda, Yetison and Petit Yeti.
– The Yeti 1 level group will start using them during the week when the instructor says so.
– Yes for the Yeti 2 groups and above.

Where do children learn to ski?

Whatever the age of the child, they usually start in our Jardin d’enfants. It is an enclosed space with the necessary equipment to do one’s first turns and to learn to break. Children will go out onto the slopes when the instructor deems them ready (they need to be able to control their speed and direction and stop easily)
Top-tip: Don’t take your child out on slopes before they are ready – you put the child and those around you at risk.

Is my child too young for ski school?

Children’s group ski lessons: We accept children from 3 years old (having already had their 3rd birthday on or before the 1st day of lessons) You will be asked for proof of age when booking. The groups are set at 6 children maximum and are adapted for their age.
Snowboarding group lessons: 10 years old minimum. The groups are made up of adults and children but decided depending on skill-level.
Snowboarding private lessons: Children can start as soon as they have a board and boots right for their size and weight.

Is the medal free?

Yes! Medals are free and included in children’s group lessons and snowboard group lessons. They are given out at the end of the week.

Necessary equipment
What equipment should I hire?

We recommend going for equipment that is easy to ski or snowboard with (not too heavy or too technical and the right height for the participant). For example, there is no need to rent flashy off-piste skis if you are an intermediate skier in lessons all week. Try multiple brands of ski shoe to find the right fit as they all vary in rigidity, width and comfort. The staff in the rental shop is there to help you make the right choice, be sure to let them know your level and the kind of lessons you have booked.

What should I wear?

The right ski-outfit is important to keep you comfortable and safe out on the mountain. If you are staying on the slopes, you should have a top, jumper and ski jacket as well as water-resistant ski trousers and ski gloves.
If you are going off-piste or ski touring, you should have light layers you can remove while you climb to avoid over-heating and put back on as you ski down.
Helmets are compulsory for children and strongly recommended for adults and snowboarders. You may never fall but you cannot control how other people ski around you and collisions happen everyday.
Sun protection is very important as the air is thinner and it is very easy to burn or permanently damage your eyes: category 3/4 sunglasses or goggles are a must and sun cream for your face.
Snowboard padding and protection for the back and wrists are recommended but not compulsory.

Where should I rent my skis?

Ski Snowboard Hire: Our customers will receive a promo code in their receipt upon booking which entitles them to discounts at our partner store Intersport in the Galerie des Villards Arc 1800 which they can use when booking their equipment hire online.
For ski touring equipment you should contact Intersport directly.
Snowshoes: Our partner Intersport are the only shop in Les Arcs who rent hiking boots adapted for snowshoeing. They do not take online bookings for this so you’ll need to go directly to the shop. PLEASE NOTE: the snowshoes themselves and the walking poles are included in the price of our snowshoeing excursions so you don’t need to rent them.

Edenarc Odalys
I am staying at Odalys Edenarc Arc 1800 in winter

Arc Aventures by Evolution 2 has a partnership with Odalys Edenarc in Arc 1800 which benefits its customers during both the summer and winter seasons.
Arc Aventures by Evolution 2 ski school offers pick up services and discounts depending on the dates and type of lessons. Call the offices to find out if these are applicable during your stay as they are not available online. + More information

Lift-pass & insurance
Do I need a lift pass? If so, which one?

Probably! In most cases you will need one as there are no free ski slopes in Les Arcs and our lessons don’t include a ski pass.
The basic pass you will need is the ‘Classic’ lift pass which covers all the slopes in Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry. Lift passes are free for under 5s, you can order them online or at the lift pass office and will need to present proof of age for the child to pick them up. Click here for more information
Children skiing: Children booked into the Panda, Yetison or Petit Yeti groups will not need a lift pass on their first day. The instructor will let you know when they will need one.
Adults who have never skied: Ask our sales team for details
Snowboarders (whatever the level): Always need the ‘Classic’ pass.

Do I need insurance for snow activities? If so, which one?

Yes! There is never insurance of any kind included with any of our lessons or activities.
We strongly recommend getting insurance for your trip: the ‘Carré Neige’ is the most well known for skiing holidays and they have many different types of cover including injuries, emergency rescue (including air-lifts to the hospital), missed lessons, equipment damage and cancellation cover.
You can book it online with your lift pass or at the lift pass offices in-resort.

Ski Touring
What is ski touring?

Ski touring is a sport that uses specialised equipment and techniques to cover snowy terrain without having to use the usual public transport and ski lifts.
This more independent method gives access to wild and unspoiled off-piste areas, alternating between uphill and downhill skiing. Climb the mountain with ‘seal-skins’ fixed to the under-side of your skis for grip, light-weight boots and hinged bindings allowing you to lift your heel for a more natural movement.
Once at the top, you can enjoy the thrill of the descent through untouched snow down perfectly serene hills. Just peel off the seal-skins, tighten your shoes, lock-in your bindings and enjoy!

Do you need to be very sporty to try ski touring?

You need to be in good shape and be an upper-intermediate / advanced level skier (Class III: see our levels).
If you like skiing, the physical effort of hiking and want to discover superb landscapes, then ski touring is perfect for you!
You will be climbing at high altitudes so try to book your ski touring session two or three days after your arrival to allow your body to adapt. Letting your body get used to the different oxygen levels is recommended so that you can fully appreciate this activity.
We mainly organise outings for adults; teenagers can take part depending on their age and level but the instructor will need to agree.

What should I wear for ski touring?

As far as clothing is concerned, you can’t go wrong with the 3-layer system (long-sleeved thermal top, a fleece or a down gilet and a light but warm ski jacket (Gore-Tex is always preferable).
The uphill climb is often intense and you will need to be able to shed layers to keep cool as you go up, then cover up again for the ride back down. Also don’t forget to bring water, snacks, sun cream and sunglasses!
Arc Aventures by Evolution 2 provides the essential safety pack for each participant: an avalanche transceiver and a rucksack containing a shovel and a probe. You can add your personal belongings to the rucksack if necessary.
It is always a good idea to book your equipment in advance (touring skis, boots, poles and seal-skins) you can get a good deal when you go to our partner shop: Intersport Villards Village, Arc 1800.

Come and try ski touring !

We offer an evening taster session for curious skiers wishing to try their hand at ski touring.
The group session takes place every Wednesday evening from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. (4 participants minimum to run).
You will climb around 200m up the slopes after the resort has closed then speed down again back to Arc 1800.
The instructor will show you how to use the specialised equipment: the seal-skins, hinged ski bindings and clip-in shoes.
*Special discount* If you have an ‘Essential’ or ‘Premium’ 6 day lift pass you get an extra -15% discount off this activity! More informations

Do I need a lift pass for ski touring?

Some ski touring routes will require a lift pass to get away from the main resort a little faster and to be able to access the wild areas more easily.
We will let you know when you book if you will need one as it will depend on the route the instructor is panning to take.

How do I book my ski touring?

We will offer you tailor-made sessions according to your level and your wishes. Call us to talk about it!
You can reach us 7 days a week by telephone: +33 (0)4 79 07 60 02 from 9 am to 6 pm or pop in to see us when you arrive at our office in Arc 1800 – Les Tournavelles building – Les Villards.
Bookings will depend on availability, ski level and weather conditions.

Snowshoeing
How do I book snowshoeing?

You can book online or over the phone before you arrive in the resort or when you arrive at our main office in Arc 1800 – Villards Village – Bottom of the piste – Tournavelles building.
Booking are subject to availability and your level of fitness.

Do I need a lift pass for snowshoeing?

Possibly! Certain walks do require the use of a ski lift. If you already have a lift pass, take it with you OR the guide can sell you a ticket just before the activity at a reduced price (6€/pers.).

What should I wear for snowshoeing?

We recommend wearing the same warm, waterproof clothes as you would for skiing, with light layers that you can remove to avoid overheating. Don’t forget gloves, bobble hats, sun glasses, sun cream, a little bottle of water and a small rucksack.
The shoes you wear are very important. They should be completely waterproof and provide ankle support if possible.
Hiking boots are ideal, or après-ski / snow boots. You can rent them from our partners: Intersport Les Villards.

Snowshoeing Programme

A wide range of hikes are offered in a variety of environments, themes, altitudes and levels. They take place in half-day, full-day and even in the early evening for the snowshoe-apéro outings.
Check out the sample programme. It is adapted each week according to the weather, snow conditions, and even to the registrations.

Do I need to be fit to do snowshoeing?

Yes, you need to have a good level of health and fitness but you don’t need to be especially sporty. You will be walking at high altitudes which makes breathing more difficult and makes the effort seem greater.
If you are not sure if you will be able to follow the group, the Sunday snowshoeing excursions are specifically for beginners and those who have just arrived in the resort and are not still adjusting to the altitude. Make the most of these trips to test your level and ask the guide to recommend which walks during the week will be best suited to you.

What is snowshoeing?

This activity is essentially walking in the snow. Participants use snowshoes which slip over walking boots or snow boots to provide better grip and avoid sinking into the snow drifts. Walking poles are also used to help with balance. Both the snowshoes and the poles are included in the price of our snowshoeing excursions.

Yoonering
What is Yoonering ?

No need to be able to ski – this is hybrid technology that combines the best parts of sledging and skiing. It is the modern version of the ‘paret’ sledge that was used at the beginning of the last century. Lightweight, flexible and comfortable, you’ll soon have completed your first few runs and be enjoying the unique feeling of Yoonering.

What should I wear for Yoonering?

You should dress warmly as for all snow sports: ski jacket and trousers are best. Gloves are recommended as are helmets and ski goggles or sunglasses. The shoes you choose are very important, they must be waterproof boots with good soles and ideally good ankle support as well. Snow boots or hiking boots are best.
Rental from the Intersport shop in the Villards village, Arc 1800.

What level of fitness will I need for Yoonering?

Whatever your fitness level, you will enjoy this activity as it is fun and easy to pick up.

How do I book Yoonering?

We offer sessions from 5:30pm, our phone lines are open seven days a week: +33 (0)4 79 07 60 02 from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
Or if you’re already in the resort, pop by our office at the bottom of the slopes in the Tournavelles building in the Villards village in Arc 1800.
Bookings will depend on availability.
